*MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*.....not that it should matter, because you shouldn't read this anyway. Really dumb story. It reads like a humble brag playbook. This guy has won every fight, even though he never really wanted to. Always got the girl, even though he was awkward and nerdy. Was the perfect boyfriend and husband, while being abused and cheated on, etc, etc. Yet EVERYTHING, ALWAYS worked out for him. He had his house raided TWICE, by the FEDS, after swindling literally a million dollars from a large company, but never faced a single charge. He was the worlds best coder and hacker under TWO different psuedonyms, at two different times. He's just the greatest. *eye roll* I couldn't even finish the book. After the 45th tale of him coming out on top of a bad situation, I checked out. "Bad choices" apparently make boring stories.

When the author stated at the end of the introduction to "go f*** yourself" if you disagreed with his perspectives, I stopped. I'm certainly not going to read an author who wants to tell me what to think, how to act, or what opinion I should have. How stupid would that be?Oh, and the author goes on and on in his intro about how prostitution is normal and anyone who has a problem with it is prudish, yet the author acknowledges that if his girl friend Donna was a prostitute, he couldn't handle it. Can you say hypocrite?Did not believe a single one of this guy's stories. After all, he identified himself at the outset as the "father of lies".

The memoir Bad Choices Make Good Stories: Going to New York by Oliver Markus Malloy is the first part of an autobiographical account about the author, Oliver, who met a woman in New York as a well known computer hacker from Germany. He decides to come to New York where he finally meets the woman he has been in contact with for years and eventually becomes an American citizen. His story deals with hacking, personal relationships involving drugs and prostitution and many other strange characters. A fair warning that this is only the first part of his autobiography and there is a cliffhanger that will leave you waiting for the next book. Oliver certainly has led a very colorful life and has a very caring and giving disposition that has gotten him into some less than favorable situations. His story is intriguing right from the beginning when he became the focus of an FBI investigation in his youth. While he has made many good decisions with making money and worked diligently and wisely to be able to live a life most of us would love to have his personal relationships with women have led him into some rather crazy territory. I loved reading about his relationship with Alice and the clever whys he tries to save her. I rather hope he succeeds in his second book but his genuine care and love for her was very inspiring to me. I also enjoyed the other crazy situations he found himself in when he decided to start dating. The book has a good pace and I found it interesting and was wrapped up in it from the start. The style the author has in telling us his story is both humorous, especially when he realizes how silly some of his decisions have been and tells us to shut up because he knows what we are thinking, and create great tension like when he sets up some situations to try to get the results he wants and it creates great drama. The way he describes his relationships with the women who respond to his dating ad create interesting and vivid characters that will be hard to forget; even if the author might like to forget them. I was also impressed with the way time was handled in the memoir. I find it to be one of the hardest things to deal with in writing a memoir and while the author does have overlapping stories to some degree, as most memoirs do, it is handled in a very neat way that leave no confusion. The book is also well structured and professionally edited. I believe readers will really enjoy this story and become very caught up in the characters and how their situations turn out. I can’t wait to read the second part of this book and see how everything turns out. The tension it ended on has me hooked like the end of a season on a TV drama. This memoir is an excellent and well done piece that will be well received.

Glad this was free, it was a waste of time the 150 pages I did read. The author thinks highly of himself, along with other unsavory characteristics- it’s hard to take. Also he wants to keep people buying his books so this one doesn’t have a real ending.

This book describes the twists and turns in the life of the author who at the beginning of the book is a high school student from Germany who is a “computer geek” who hacks into video games so that his friends can play them. He starts a group of fellow hackers known as a “cracking group” that eventually expands drawing in members from all over Europe. He becomes infamous all over the world among fellow geeks and hackers and eventually meets an American girl on the internet who “runs with the same crowd.”Suddenly, nothing else matters and they spend virtually every waking hour talking via hacked transatlantic telephone service. Their relationship blossoms and they eventually come together in the United States. The rest of the story tells the incredible history of the author’s experiences in America which are mind boggling. This book is the first in a series of two. This story is told in a very raw but realistic manner with no question ever about the authenticity of the author and his experiences. The pace of the book was appropriate even though at times it became frantic as warranted by the scenes described. The author’s style was super realistic and the reader never gets the feeling that he is holding anything back. Parts of the book are hysterically funny such as the description of the author’ broken down car that he is using as an illegal taxi for hire as being in such bad shape that “the ceiling in the car looked like it had cancer.” Another funny scene described a psychopathic fellow cab driver who went around all day seeing aliens everywhere. I also like the many important life lessons that the author explains in the book about what really runs the international profit system and how drug addicts turn into “sociopathic predators” without souls who will lie, cheat and steal giving any excuse to pay for their next fix. The editing and formatting of the book were both well done and the book’s cover is certainly “eye catching.”I did not particularly like the vast amount of curse words and sexual slang in the book and the author’s style tended to be a bit rough such as at the beginning telling the reader “So if you are easily offended, go ……. yourself.”Despite the few reservations mentioned above, this is an important book that I would highly recommend to adult readers only as it contains many sexually explicit scenes inappropriate for children. It is very entertaining and humorous but also incorporates important life lessons with much to learn for all of us from the author’s experiences. I gladly rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.
