From School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2—Fans of Pig the Pug will enjoy this follow-up story about this feisty pup. This time around, Pig has to win at everything. Even if it's not a competition, the pug turns it into one. Whether by cheating or throwing a temper tantrum, Pig must be declared the winner. His attitude begins to affect his friendship with Trevor the dachshund. One night, while the two are having dinner, Pig declares an eating competition. Thinking only of winning, Pig eats so fast that he swallows his bowl. It's a good thing Trevor is there to give him the Heimlich maneuver and save his life. Instead of a thank you though, Pig yells "I won!" just as the flying bowl bounces back and bops him on the head. In the end, viewers see Pig with a bandaged head, who is more at ease with the idea of losing—sometimes. Cartoon illustrations of this expressive bug-eyed-pug bring Pig's eccentric character to life. Readers are guaranteed to either love or hate him, but will definitely not feel indifferent. Minimal background allows the characters to really carry the story. VERDICT The important lesson of playing fair and winning (and losing) gracefully is one that everyone should learn, and who better than Pig to teach it? A great addition for storytime collections.—Emily E. Lazio, The New York Public Library

My 6 year old loves Pig the Pug. And so do his parents! We have the original book, this one, and Pig the Elf. I got this one as a christmas present for my son and before i wrapped it up my husband wanted us to read it together first (while our kids slept). It's a real funny book that uses rhyme. Not too many words, but not too few. Love the illustration!!!! You and your kids will laugh out loud. And it's a fairly quick bedtime story that you will be happy to read, trust me. I recommend this and all of Aaron Blabey's books. We have Thelma the Unicorn as well, LOVE it!!! (But my son feels thats a girly book so I have it for my baby girl).
Great little book and story for kids. My only gripe is that the pictures are maybe too good; my kids often lose the message of the story as they get distracted with the pictures on the page!
This is a borrowing favorite from the library, especially by grades 1-3. This self-centered pig rubs people the wrong way is not apologetic. Still, this odd behavior does fascinate listeners and readers.
My 5 year old daughter loves pugs. It was a perfect book for her and has a great message!
I have bought almost all the Pig the Pug books for my nephews. I think they are great books. Some sentences are a little tricky but I think it is great for little kids to learn how to slow down and say what they are reading.
Nephew loves these books!! Bought them all for him
i Love this book and so do my grandsons
Love love love the pig books! The stories are hilarious and the illustrations are even better!
